Tips for Planning Your New Fence
Published on: June 12, 2017
Fences can add security, beauty or privacy to your home, often a combination of all three. Whether you are putting up a decorative fence or a solid fence for your pets or privacy, you need to do some preparing and planning before your start your project. Here are a few tips to get you started on planning your new fence.
- Know where your property lines are. Whether you have a small lot in suburbia or a large tract of land in the country, you need to make sure your fence stays within your property confines. The last thing you want is to find out after the fence is in place that it is on a neighbor’s property.
- Form and function. Determining where your fence will be placed will decide on the form of fence and what function you want it to provide. Consider whether you need containment, abutments to structures and other factors in placing your fence outline.
- Property considerations. If you will be digging deep fence holes, you need to consider what is below the surface of your yard. This could be electrical lines or sewer pipes that cannot be disturbed.
- DIY or hire a contractor. Do you want to attempt to install your own fence or use a contractor? While you can save money by doing it yourself, are you the best person to do the job? You may want to contact a local landscaper that offers professional fence installation to ensure that it is done right the first time.
Adding a new fence can enhance your home if you plan and prepare to avoid issues, especially when you use the help of a professional.
